For our first Meet the Team feature of 2021, get to know all about Abbey, our loveable, resident star-baker, Senior Account Executive! Get to know more about her below…

How long have you been at Prohibition? I’ve been at Prohibition for exactly two years and nine months!

What do you love most about your job? It has to be the people I work with. There’s a real sense of a ‘team’ and we’re always all in it together – whether that’s laughing in the office or getting stuck into a tricky piece of work! I also think the variety of work is great, no two days are ever really the same which is something I absolutely love about my job.

Tell us a bit about your journey to working at Prohibition. I started working at Prohibition whilst I was actually still at university! I was in my final year, studying Journalism at Leeds Trinity, I knew I wanted to work in PR and I’d done various work placements to get insight and experience working in the industry. I was offered a role at Prohibition in May, graduated with a first-class degree in July and I’ve been here ever since!

What’s your top tip for someone looking to get into the PR industry? I have two top tips – the first is experience! Get as much as you can whether it’s with an agency or in house, it’s really valuable and you can learn so many things from working with different people, different brands and in different settings. The second would be to try and find something you’re passionate about within the industry that makes you unique. For example, I’ve always loved writing and transferred that towards blog writing whilst at university. In doing so, I now look after our blog here at Prohibition which is something I really enjoy! So, in short, my top tips are – get lots of experience and find a skill you really enjoy that you can apply to the industry.

What’s your favourite social media platform and why? I think it would have to be Instagram. I could scroll for hours looking at all sorts from delicious food pics, to interior inspiration and fashion trends. I also love working on influencer campaigns, so the two naturally go hand in hand.

What do you love most about working/living up North? I’ve lived and worked up North my whole life and I don’t ever imagine that changing! You know when you’ve been away and are driving home and start to see the signs for the North or when you’re away and hear a Northern accent – that instantly makes me feel at home. I also love how friendly people are up North, the beautiful mix of country and city life and the fact that we have the best brews – which goes without saying is Yorkshire Tea.

What three things could you not live without? I could not live without Percy Pigs, they are my favourite sweets in the world. My family and friends who mean the absolute world to me. And my dressing gown and slippers – the ultimate comfort.

Give us your favourite quote. ‘If you stress too much about something before it happens, you basically put yourself through it twice.’

If you could switch places with any celeb for the day – who would it be and why? Probably Kate Middleton. I absolutely love her and think she’s just flawless! Also, how cool would it be to be a royal princess for the day?!

What’s something you’re secretly (or not so secretly!) really good at/passionate about outside of work? Possibly not so secret, but I absolutely love baking. It’s when I feel most myself, relaxed and happy – and it’s pretty great to have delicious baked goods to eat too!
