We’re back this month with another meet the team! For September, get to know all about our super talented, creative genius, Graphic Designer – Maya.

How long have you been at Prohibition? I’ve been at Prohibition for just over 9 months, it will be a year at the end of November!

What do you love most about your job? I love working on a variety of different projects, all our clients are really different so it’s fun to switch up throughout the day. I also love the work culture we have at Prohibition, I genuinely look forward to being in the office.

Tell us a bit about your journey to working at Prohibition. I started off doing Illustration at university, and after leaving I really wished I’d studied Graphic Design as I felt there was more of a career in it, and I was actually more interested in it. I spent some time working as a Creative Media Assistant which allowed me to gain more Graphic Design experience, and made sure I was developing my skillset in my own time as well. I worked hard to get to a point where I thought I could start applying for Graphic Design jobs and landed my first junior Graphic Designer role, which was mostly designing neon signs (very random and yes, I got my own neon sign too!). Fast forward a couple of months and I saw an opening at Prohibition which sounded perfect for me, so I applied and here I am today! It wasn’t the most straightforward route, but I am so grateful and proud to have got to where I want to be.

What’s your top tip for someone looking to get into the design industry Persevere and don’t give up hope, it’s so easy to feel like a little fish in a huge pond in this industry but if you keep motivated you will get to where you want to be.

What’s your favourite social media platform and why? I love Instagram for actual social things like posting and seeing what my friends are up to, and I love TikTok for scrolling.

What do you love most about working/living up North? I’m Yorkshire born and bred and have never lived anywhere else! The North will always be home.

What three things could you not live without? Pizza, my cats and music. AKA the essentials.

Give us your favourite quote.

Such is life.

If you could switch places with any celeb for the day – who would it be and why? Probably Daisy May Cooper, I’d love to know what’s going on inside her head on a daily basis.

What’s something you’re secretly (or not so secretly!) really good at/passionate about outside of work? I’m pretty good at drawing and I like to draw people’s pets!
