Yet another month filled with interesting social media ad updates that every marketer should be aware of. From Meta expanding even more on its new AI offering to X making big moves to try and incentivise users to go back to advertising on the platform, here is your May ads update.

Meta reveals new AI-powered ad tools

Along with Meta’s many additions to social media advertising tools in the past couple of years, it is now introducing machine learning-powered creator recommendations for brands in Instagram’s Creator Marketplace. This tool is to help brands find the perfect creator to work with on their upcoming campaigns by allowing the brand to add filters to make their search really specific.

Following this, Meta revealed another interesting AI update. The ‘image expansion’ tool that is already available for Meta ads has had an update, now allowing Advantage+ creative to expand static posts in reels, making your content fit each format.

Finally, Meta is introducing multi-destination product ads for reels – these will use items from your product catalogue to show relevant matches to each user through a user’s in-app behaviour.

More image and text AI creation is coming to Meta

Following Meta’s implementation of its Advantage+ creative, it is now expanding on these tools by making them even better. From an image creation perspective, Advantage+ can now create image variations based on your own uploaded ad creative.

With this update also comes a text generation update, now allowing advertisers to generate alternate headlines based on the already existing copy that has been uploaded to an ad campaign. Meta is also at the testing stage of an another new text feature, where it’s AI will generate text that will reflect your brand messaging and key messages – goodbye ad copy writing…

X adds incentive for companies to sign up to Verified for Organisations

Following the very low pick-up of businesses signing up to X’s Verified for Organisations, X is now offering to match the spend on the programme with ad credits. This means any organisation that signs up to the £2,000 basic access, or the £10,000 full access will receive the same amount that was spent to be able to advertise on the platform. This comes with the full benefits of X Premium for any individual accounts added within the Verified for Organisations offering.

AI audience building is coming to X

A new method of creating audiences for ad campaigns using AI is coming to X. With all social media platforms pushing AI into each’s offering, X is now following suit with conversational descriptions being turned into ad audiences. X gave an example of ‘Users who are leaders in technology’ the AI then created an audience of users who fit this description.

LinkedIn shares new list of tips to help maximise campaign performance

LinkedIn has shared another infographic with advertisers to help with their campaign performance. This one focusses on how AI, attribution and measurement can all be used to maximise results for B2B marketers – definitely worth a look over.

New collaboration feature coming to TikTok

Similar to Meta’s paid partnership/collaborator posts, TikTok is in the process of testing a new collaboration feature on its platform. If the new change is to be launched to all accounts, each account will be able to invite other users to collaborate on a TikTok, having the collaborated account’s details on the post along with the original poster of the content. Hopefully this leads to partnership ads being launched on the platform (just like Meta…).

New TikTok advertiser certificate

For those who have advertised on TikTok and have the experience of running campaigns, TikTok is launching a qualification for advertisers. To receive the accreditation, advertisers have to complete a test on everything TikTok ads and those who pass the exam will receive the qualification that can be used in CVs and social media to affirm their knowledge of the platform.

Any advertisers who use TikTok’s quick ‘Promote’ ad option (boost), this information is for you. TikTok has shared a 45-page guide that covers everything you need to know about the ‘Promote’ option, including information on its ‘promotion packs’ where user’s can pay for a specific number of views to receive on a piece of content in a day.
