Another month means another meet the team! For April, get to know all about Dawn, our Digital Marketing Manager and major Justin Bieber fan girl…
How long have you been at Prohibition? I joined Prohibition last July 2022, so around 8 months, will actually be coming up to my 1st year anniversary in a few months – which is crazy!
What do you love most about your job? Opportunity and trust. Joining as Prohibition’s first ever Marketing Manager, I can really mould my role and see first-hand the results of our marketing. In my previous role, I worked heavily in social media and design, so it was hard to measure of my work, but my role at Prohibition allows to me take on a broader role and responsibility; writing whitepapers, managing HubSpot data, creating newsletters. I can’t not also mention Chris and Claire – having such supportive line managers makes such a difference.
Tell us a bit about your journey to working at Prohibition. I found it hard to get a job back home after leaving Leeds Beckett University, so straight after I did a digital marketing apprenticeship. I really enjoyed learning about the digital side and knew I wanted to go into an agency. But, I knew I didn’t want to stay in Middlesbrough after finishing, then COVID-19 hit and I found myself on furlough. After applying for jobs in Leeds, Newcastle and outskirts of Middlesbrough, about two years ago, I managed to secure a job at a digital performance agency in Leeds and moved basically a month later! A year and half into my role at the agency, I was looking for the next step in my career and as soon as I saw the job at Prohibition I applied straight away. Despite my rubbish internet connection (I thought I ruined my chances), after my first interview, I knew this was the job for me.
What’s your top tip for someone looking to get into the PR industry? This is not really PR related, but don’t be afraid to try something different. Apart from the website content I do, my role is a lot different to my last one and it’s allowed me to work on new projects that I’ve ended up really enjoying, such as speaking in front of 100’s of kids for a careers talk!
What’s your favourite social media platform and why? Oooo good question, it’s got to be TikTok. I was never a big user and then over the Christmas break with time to kill, I got myself addicted to it. It’s amazing to have the chance to grow our own channel with the PPR team!
What do you love most about working/living up North? It’s really easy to get around. I’m from Middlesbrough myself and lived in Leeds for university and clearly, I couldn’t stay away because I moved back! I like how it’s close enough to get home and close to places like Manchester.
What three things could you not live without? Definitely Justin Bieber, the gym, and pancakes. I bet you’ve never heard of a stranger combination.
Give us your favourite quote. “Don’t let your past, ruin your future” My past experiences have left me in an unhappy place for a lot of my life (of no fault of my own) and now I feel like I’m in my best place, so I just want to channel the message that don’t let your past define your future. Your best is yet to come!
If you could switch places with any celeb for the day – who would it be and why? Hailey Bieber, of course, cause she’s married to Justin Bieber and I could replace her (please, don’t judge me).
What’s something you’re secretly (or not so secretly!) really good at/passionate about outside of work? Chicken parmos. They’re a boro staple dish, it’s basically chicken with breadcrumbs, bechamel sauce and parmesan cheese on the top. It might not sound amazing, but they’re honestly so good and rubbish everywhere else. I’m yet to find somewhere in Leeds that does a good one!
