Instagram is one of the most popular social media channels, which has seen massive worldwide growth over the last few years. The platform experiences millions of unique users each day, and the people of Leeds are definitely no exception!
To celebrate all that Instagram has to offer, our wonderful client The Light in Leeds teamed up with the very talented Leeds Photography Group to launch its #LeedsLightComp competition – encouraging budding local photographers to upload their images of Leeds to the platform using the hashtag, for a chance to have their image displayed in a unique art exhibition in the centre.
The competition was hailed a major success – with more than 900 picture-perfect entries, ranging from cityscapes and local attractions to wildlife and Leeds folk! And after sifting through the huge number of entries, the 900 images were whittled down to the top ten and overall winner.
The winning images have since been displayed in a Leeds-first Instagram installation, featuring giant mock-up smart phones, to bring together the physical and digital worlds. The winners were invited to a VIP champagne and canapé reception to celebrate the unveiling of the installation, and the overall winner was also gifted with a canvas print of their winning entry.
