ENGIE: uniting a global energy group behind one story

ENGIE: uniting a global energy group behind one story

Case study · Energy & Utilities

ENGIE employs more than 150,000 people worldwide and 17,000 in the UK. Its sustainable projects were being told as separate stories, diluting its voice. We localised the global Harmony Project for the UK: one banner for its sustainable work, with paid social and content for prospective employees and training so staff could talk about their roles. It drove 155,000 link clicks.

What did ENGIE need?

ENGIE employs 153,090 people worldwide on revenues of €66.6bn, with 17,000 in the UK across energy and services. Its innovative, sustainable projects were being told as separate stories.

The Harmony Project ran globally in markets including the US, Mexico, Italy and Brazil. We were briefed to localise it for the UK.

  • Business objective: attract talent and strengthen ENGIE’s reputation in the UK.
  • Communication objective: bring ENGIE’s sustainable projects together under one banner, increasing share of voice and engagement.

What was the insight?

Many strong stories told separately sound like noise. Told together, they show what a company stands for.

The idea was the Harmony Project, made local.

What did we do?

  • One banner. We brought UK case studies, projects and achievements together under the Harmony Project.
  • Creative content. An interactive on-site asset and video told the stories.
  • Paid social. Paid and organic social reached prospective employees.
  • Internal training. Training gave staff the confidence to talk about their roles.

What did it achieve?

Results by stage of the AMEC evaluation framework, with the source for each figure.

Stage Measure Result Source
Outputs Campaign link clicks 155K Paid social platform reporting
Out-takes Campaign engagements 120K Social platform analytics
Out-takes Growth in engagement +8.9% Social platform analytics
Out-takes Share of voice uplift +2.2% Media monitoring

What did ENGIE get from it?

A single, clearer story about ENGIE’s sustainable work in the UK, and a bigger share of the conversation.

What did we learn?

  • Unite the stories. One banner made separate projects feel like a mission.
  • Bring staff with you. Trained employees made the story authentic.
  • What we would do differently. track applications from campaign traffic, to show the effect on recruitment.
